Exams

Young man recieving a dental exam at Michael Brody D.D.S., Merrick, NYFor thorough dental examinations, contact the professional at Michael Brody D.D.S.. It is quite interesting how people from a young age start to have some kind of fear from the dentist. Most of us associate visits to dentists with dental drills, anesthetic injections and pain, so when we grow up, we tend to avoid regular visits. Routine checks are vital to our oral health and overall well-being. You might think that there is nothing wrong with your teeth because there are no indicators that suggest otherwise, but almost all diseases cause no pain until they seriously developed. We recommend that you visit us for exams regularly to ensure your ongoing good oral health. Make an appointment to see us from time to time, and you can be preventing serious problems down the line.

Good Home Cleaning Saves the Day

Be aware that the best way to keep your teeth healthy for years to come is a good toothbrush, floss, mouthwash, and toothpaste rich with fluoride. Fluoride prevents tooth decay and prevents cavities. Do not hesitate to invest in your oral hygiene, ask us for advice about the type of toothbrushes and floss, etc. For just a small investment up front, you can be saving yourself a lot of time and money further down the line.

Bear in mind that we are all different and have different problems, so there is no universal advice except that you should brush your teeth at least twice a day for 2 or 4 minutes per brushing. It is suggested that you floss and use mouthwash after as well because brushing cannot always reach every ‘nook and cranny.’ Well-balanced nutrition can also help a great deal to keep your pearly whites healthy. You should avoid smoking and reduce your coffee, soda drinks, candy, and other sugary sweets intake. Bacteria just love to feed on sugar, and these bacteria produce an acidic waste, which can eat away at your teeth. It is always better to prevent than to have to cure.

Why are Regular Exams Important?

Dental associations say oral infections can cause serious health problems in your body and signal diseases such as heart problems (pre-heart attack conditions), stroke, diabetes, leukemia, and even cancer. There are also less serious problems that can be caused by poor dental hygiene and avoiding regular, systematic exams. These include cavities, gum inflammation, tooth decay, tooth erosion, etc. You should always listen to your body. Symptoms in your mouth are sometimes disguised indicators of some problem elsewhere.

Simple dental exams with us consist of a few parts. Our dentists will clean your teeth and check for cavities and any other diseases or problems. Next, according to your medical history and hereditary problems, we will evaluate your risk of developing any oral problems and check your head and mouth for irregularities.
