Digital RadiographyHere at Michael Brody D.D.S., we use the latest digital radiography technology to help ensure you get the best treatment possible. Digital dental radiography is a modern and efficient way to determine dental diseases. It replaces traditional methods used to monitor dental diseases due to the benefits it comes with. We offer digital radiography with the latest equipment to assure your dental health. What is Digital Radiography?Digital radiography is done by using modern digital x-ray sensors which have replaced old photographic x-ray films. Digital radiography produces much better images of the patient’s teeth, gums and other parts of the mouth, which helps to find the best treatment. There are two main types of digital radiography: intraoral or extraoral. Intraoral X-raysWe use intraoral x-ray film to monitor the patient’s teeth closely. A special electronic sensor is placed inside the patient’s mouth which records images to let our dentist know about any tooth disease that the patient may be suffering from. It can detect tooth decay, cavities, and monitors the patient’s gums, teeth health, and bone health. Intraoral x-rays are broken down into two further methods: Bitewing x-rays and periapical x-rays. Extraoral X-raysWe use extraoral x-rays to monitor your jaw growth and development. In addition to that, it is efficient at detecting problems like impacted teeth and temporomandibular joint issues.
Methods that we use for Digital RadiographyOur team uses digital radiography with three safe and painless methods. The methods include the direct method, indirect method, and semi-indirect method. With the direct method, we use a special electronic sensor which thoroughly takes images from inside the patient’s mouth. The indirect method uses the traditional dental x-ray film and a digital scanner which scans the film into better digital images. We may also use both the electronic sensor and the scanner to convert the film x-ray into clear digital images. This efficient procedure is called the semi-indirect method.
